AP Studio Art
Course Overview
AP Studio Art portfolios are designed for students who are seriously interested in the practical experience of art. AP Studio Art credit is not based on a written exam, but rather portfolio's submitted for evaluation at the end of the school year. Our AP Studio Art Program consists of two portfolios: 2-D Design and Drawing corresponding to the most common college foundation courses. This course is designed as an opportunity for highly motivated students to do college level studio art in high school. The program requires a significant amount of time and personal dedication. AP studio art encourages creative and systematic investigation of formal and conceptual issues. Students in AP Studio Art meet for two semesters. The students will typically have taken one year of Foundational Art and one year of 2-D/3-D or Digital Media Art. However, since we are building the program, we are encouraging any student who has completed Foundational Art, and is willing to do the work to apply for the program with instructor approval. Due to portfolio review and early applications for college, students who are serious about pursuing art school are encouraged to take AP Studio Art as a junior.
Prerequisites: Must have taken at passed at least 2 years of art or had a portfolio of work approved by teacher.
